Tune In! The Anand is in Anhad

The shabad written in Sri Guru Granth Sahib is an unstruck melody, the Anhad, that is broadcast athay pehar (24/7) to the World, but only a very few (bhaganwale) fortunate gurmukhs are blessed with the opportunity and intitutive understanding of where to tune in, why to tune in, and what is being broadcast? Those Gurmukhs really know where to find the station and tune in, have the ability to listen and follow this Waheguru's station. Manmukhs just love listening to noise that is being broadcast thru 24/7 news in the form of political probelms, social gossip, World problems, family problems, financial problems, religious problems, love connections, drug music, scientific problems, medical problems and the list goes on. It seems the entire World is just loves to follow these stations and believes what is being broadcast on them as gospel. The result is wars, parties, alholcolism, depression, endless diseases, anger, anxiety, fighting, paranoid mentality, greed, egotism, lust, killngs, robberies, you name it. At times, it seems, the World is just drowning itself into this endless noise and no one understands Anhad. If everyone would just tune in, even for a few minutes of their life. They might just make it. Our Guru Sahibaan understood all of this 500 years ago.  So please tune in, and enjoy Gurbani thru  meditatation, reading, writing, and learning and listening music, especially classical instruments.  The pleasure is in Anhad.

Bhaskar - An unsung Indian Mathematician

As an electrical and electronics engineer myself and being born and raised in Punjab, India, I sure appreciate the Indian contribution to the modern world of science, philosophy, religion and engineering.  The basis of many of the calculus, geometry, algebra, systems theory, differential equations, decimal and computing theory, discrete math and digital systems are based on Bhaskar's earlier work.  He existed long before Newton and Liebniz that every science major reads about.  It is amazing to see Indian contribution to modern day mathematical, astronomical, computing and scientific Worlds, but sadly, Indian scientists, engineers, mathematicians, astronomers, philosophers have not been given their due credit to their work.  India was also well known for metallurgy and medicine fields as well in its golden years.  Last two or three centuries have seen many contributions from the Western World, especially U.S., UK, France, Italy and Germany. China has also produced some of the greatest mathematicians, scientists, philosophers, thinkers and builders to the modern World as well as its golden years.  I think this whole development Renaissance thing is cyclic.  It is time for India and China to shine again.  I think during the course of coming century if not the millennium, many scientific developments, theories, discoveries, innovations, medicines, building materials, and commerical products would be coming from China and India.  They are just starting to get warmed up and it is just the tip of the iceberg.  Like Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh's famous mantra of "Look East", India is about to enter an another golden age.  Only thing that Indian leaders have to make sure is that Indians keep their values, social harmony within and outside their borders, stick to truth, justice and freedom for all and don't forget their roots and history of tyrannical rulers of the past.  I also think Indian women will be the greatest contributor to this new golden age of human progress.

And, always, one may ask me what is this got to do with Sikhs?  I would say, everything.  Sikhs love education, science, history, culture, arts, music, mathematics, innovation, advancement, and development.  Sikhs have produced their own great thinkers, entrepreneurs, innovators, doers, and builders.  Sri Guru Nanak Sahib was not only a great divine Satguru but a brave thinker, philosopher, writer, poet, explorer who walked more miles than anybody in today's World, householder, farmer and way ahead of his time.  All Gurus were great leaders.  They started langar, built great structures like Harmandir Sahib, Akal Takhat, forts like Lohgarh etc. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib was a great poet, brave warrior, musician, great engineer, great builder, great peacemaker, great statesman and way ahead of his time by creating Khalsa who is alive and well in today's modern World. There have been so many great Sikh men and women who have done and are doing things to make community proud. In today's World, Dr. Manmohan Singh is steering the Indian ship and only time will tell where it lands.

A normal Sikh War Hero in 1800's, Another Bhai Ghaneeya Ji seen as savior equivalent to Christ!

During my google search, I ran into this book titled "Defensive war proved to be a denial of Christianity and of the government of God", written in 1840's.  On page 135, the author gives a story of Sikh who was looking for his friend in the battlefield ran into a British soldier who was severely wounded and left for dead. Oh! how many stories like this I would find of Sikh humility, goodness of heart, bravery, and seeing God in all including your enemy.  Bhai Ghaneeya Ji come to mind who, almost 300 years before red cross came into being, gave water to wounded mughal soldiers in the battlefields.  The sikh young man in Europe comes to mind who a few years ago gave up his life trying to chase a robber who had stolen a lady's purse. Here is the link to the book:

Quantum Activist or Quantum Doctor

I watched the movie "Quantum Activist" about a month ago and it was very interesting. It kind of shows how science tries to explain time and time again the spiritual reality, which in my view is Waheguru.  I can relate many things in the movie to Gurbani in so many ways such as when he is talking about how science is discovering a special spot in brain that can lead to a state of bliss.  In Anand Sahib that Sikhs recite, Guru ji mentions dasam duar, the 'tenth gate', how it is kept a secret and revealed with God's grace.  There are many other places that Sri Guru Granth Sahib also mentions this tenth gate.  I urge everyone to watch it and it is available on netflix.  The guy Amit Goswami was recently on bay area local PBS station for fundraiser.  I guess he has also written a book I forgot the exact name but something like "Quantum Doctor".   He also talks about cause and effect in the movie, which also takes me back into Gurbani.

Khotay Sikkay - Counterfiet vs. Genuine coins

As I was listening to another one of my favorite shabad "Man khotay tan chor Navan chalay teerathi", I decided to do a search on the word "khotay" in Gurmukhi to see what comes up and I was surprised to see the number of times our Guru Ji gives analogy of Khotay sikkay in regards to one being truthful, honest and remembering Naam vs.one being deceitful, liar, cheat and engrossed in maya.
