Those people who attach themselves to the illusion around them, particularly chit laa-iday, chit means worries, laa-iday means attached. Those people who get attached, they attach themselves to attachment. See how false they have been in itself. They get attached to attachment. And they get attached to something which is false, the illusion around us. Mayree jindurhee- ay, Oh my soul! say ant ga-ay pachhutaanay raam. Ant means in the end. Aa-ay means leave. Pachhutaanay means regretting. And in the end they leave, they leave regretting that they focused upon this false illusion around them.

By meditating upon the Nourisher Waheguru, Har naam samaanay raam Samaanay means to become one with. Har naam means the Name of the Lord. They become one with the Lord by repeating His Name.

sabh jaa-ay milhu Sabh means all. Jaa-ay means go. Milhu means to meet. All go to meet the satgururoo True Guru. Why? Because, har har naam means the name of Waheguru, darirh-aavai means to put inside of, to implant, to embed in our souls. Go and meet the Guru because he will bless you with the Naam. And once you are blessed with the Naam you become one with God

har japadhiaa khin dtil n keejee maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae math k jaapai saahu aavai k n aavai raam
Har means Waheguru. Japdi-aa means meditating upon. Khin means an instant. Dhil means hesitate, to be lazy. Na means not to. Keei-ee means to do. Even for an instant, even for a second, even for one breath, do not stop meditating upon Waheguru. Do not hesitate to meditate. Mayree jindurhee-ay. Oh my Soul! Mat means who knows. Ke jaapai means to know again to understand. Saahu means breath, aavaii means to come. Ke na aavai means not to come. Do not hesitate for even one second because you do not know if that next breath is going to enter your body or not.

That second, that time, safal hai Is fruitful, is satisfying. mayree jindurhee-ay Oh my Soul! Which moment? jit in which har mayraa – mayraa means mind. Har means Waheguru, Nourishing Lord. That moment is great in which My Lord, chit aavai; Chit means cautiousness. Aavai means to come. That moment is great in which I remember My Lord.

jan naanak naam dhhiaaeiaa maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae jamaka(n)kar naerr n aavai raam
jan nwnk, Servant Naanak, naam Dhi-aa-i-aa, has meditated upon the Naam, on the Name of God. Maeree jindurheeae, Oh my Soul!. And what happens by doing this? Jamkanakar means Messenger of Death. Nayrh means close. Na means does not, aavai means come. By meditating upon God, upon Waheguru, upon the Naam, the Messenger of Death cannot even get close to Servant Naanak.

Har vaekhai sunai nith sabh kishh maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae so ddarai jin paap kamathae raam
Har means Waheguru, vaykhai means to see, sunai means listen to, nit means all the time, sab kichh means everything. All the time the Lord is constantly watching us. He hears everything. mayree jindurhee-ay Oh my soul! So means that person alone. Darai means to be afraid. That person is afraid. jin paap kamtay raam. Jin means who has, paap means sins, kamtay means to do or to commit. That person who has committed sins only he should be afraid.

jis a(n)thar hiradhaa sudhh hai maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae thin jan sabh ddar sutt ghathae raam

Jan, that person, that servant. Sabh means all. Dar means fear. Sut ghatay raam. Sut means to caste off. Ghatay means to cut away. That person whose heart is pure, my soul, Guru Ram Das appears to be saying, that person who is pure, who does not do misdeeds, who japs God’s name and who meditates on Waheguru, he has cut away all his fears. He has nothing to fear.

har nirabho naam patheejiaa maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae sabh jhakh maaran dhusatt kupathae raam
That person who is pateeji-aa means to have complete faith in. Har means Waheguru, nirbha-o means fearless naam means name. That person who has complete faith in the fearless name of God, Mayree ijndurhee-ay. Oh my Soul, Sabh means all. Jhakh maaraan means to speak against that person. Dusat means enemy, evil-doer literally. Kuptay means in vain. That person who has complete faith in the Name of God, is fearless, and therefore people will try to bring him down. But he will not care because he is one with the fearless Lord.

gur pooraa naanak saeviaa maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae jin pairee aan sabh ghathae raam
Gur pooraa means the perfect Guru, Guru Nanak. Guru Ram Das ji is saying about himself, "I have served the True Guru." Sayvi-aa means to serve. Mayree jindurhee-ay means, Oh my Soul! Oh my Soul! Naanak has served the perfect Guru. Jin pairee, Who has, pairee means has. Aan means to. Sabh means all. Ghatay means to make anyone fall down. Nanak will serve that Guru upon whose feet everyone has come and fallen. The greatest of ahankaris came and fell at the feet of Guru Nanak.

jinHee means who. Ik man means with one mind. I araaDhi-aa means to worship to meditate upon. Those peole who single-mindedly, or completely, focus their attention and love onto Waheguru, mayree jindurhee-ay, Oh my soul! Tinaa means those people. Naahee means know. Kisai dee kichh means anyone’s. Chadaa raam. Chadaa means subservient, to be under anyone. Those people, who have single-mindedly focused themselves on Waheguru, they are not subservient to anyone else apart from Waheguru. They are kings. They are patshahas. No one can dictate to them to do anything because they walk on the path of God. They only take orders from Waheguru and no one else. They don’t bow to anyone else. They don’t let their heads fall in front of anyone else. Guru Gobind Singh never let his head fall in front of Aurangzeb. Guru Gobind Singh didn’t give up. Baba Deep Singh didn’t let his head fall. Bhai Mani Singh didn’t give up. They are not subservient to anyone. They are not under anyone.

gur saeviai har mehal paaeiaa maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae jhakh maaran sabh ni(n)dhak gha(n)ddaa raam
Gur sayvi-ai – By doing seva, by serving the Guru, har mahal paa-i-aa. Har means Waheguru. Mahal means abode. Paa-i-aa means to find. I have found the abode of God. Where is the abode of God? Where does God live? Inside your heart. Mayree jindurhee-ay, Oh my soul! My own will is to do seva, Oh my Soul! Jhakh maaran means to speak in vain. To slander. To do nindaa. Sabh nindak means all the slanderers. Ghandaa means to no avail. The nindaks, the slanderers, the trouble-makers, the people who stir up trouble, they will talk in vain. They are like dogs barking in vain. "I have found for that person, Gur Ram Das ji is saying, that person who has found God inside him, he doesn’t care what any slanderer says. He is not brought down by any slander." Even when someone wants to get together, and to slander someone, or to praise, someone who is attached to God, by their slander or by their praise, it doesn’t get any greater or any less. He is stable, in one place. In the instability of Kaljug, that person who is attached to Waheguru is stable. He doesn’t care what anyone says.

jan naanak naam dhhiaaeiaa maeree ji(n)dhurreeeae dhhur masathak har likh shhaddaa raam
Jan the servant, Naanak, naam Dhi-aa-i-aa, has meditated upon the Naam, the name of God, mayree jinjurhee-ay. Oh my Soul! Dhur mastak means the pure name of destiny upon his forehead. Har likh chhadaa – Har means Waheguru. Likh means to write. Chhadaa means to lift. Such is the great, fortunate blessing of destiny on that Gursikh which has been written upon his forehead by Waheguru Himself, that he has been given the chance to meditate upon the Naam. Guruji is saying to us in this hukamnama today – I think if we were to take one line from this Hukamnama – it would be har japdi-aa khin dhil na keej-ee mayree jindurhee-ay mat ke jaapai saahu aavai ke na aavai raam. Do not hesitate for a minute to meditate upon the name of God. Who knows whether we will breathe another breath? If we were to take one line from this hukamnama it would be this. Who knows about the next breath? Who knows about the next instant? Who knows about the next second? Amidst all this fear, amidst all this trouble in Kaljug, the only thing we can do is meditate upon God. That is Guru Ram Das ji’s blessing to us today.
